  • Classic Matting

Matting is the most archival way of framing a piece. It is popular for framing in photographs and other works. Matting provides a border around the image/artwork, while holding the artwork securely in place. Matting also recesses the artwork slightly from the glass/plexi to make sure that the artwork is not directly touching the glazing. All matboards used are acid free and come in an array of colors. Matboards typically come in sizes: 32” x 40”, 40” x 60”, and oversize.

  • FLOATING

Floating is also an archival framing option. It is popular for framing works on paper or any other works that are made with textured paper or interesting edges. Floating is when the artwork is “hinged” using acid free tape to an acid free matboard. The “Float” is how much border is shown around the artwork. When using the floating option, you must always use spacers. Spacers are used to recess the artwork from the glazing. Spacers turn the framing into a shallow shadow box.

  • custom art mounting

    MOUNTING

Mounting is essentially the process of pasting a print onto a special backboard. Backboard options include Sintra, Gator, Aluminum, Dibond, and Foamcor*.

  • STRAIGHT-TO-GLAZING

When framing inexpensive artwork, some people may decide to frame artwork using no matting, floating, or mounting. This option is NOT suggested by Skyframe since it is a non-archival way of picture framing. Over time, this may cause the glazing to stick to the artwork. This option
